It was only last week that fall was here in Canada. This week on the blog will be dedicated to most people’s favourite season: fall.
Many times when I want to go grocery shopping, I want to look like a bum. I want to be comfortable when I am shopping. Even though I would like to wear sweatpants and a t-shirt, I resist the urge to show up homeless in public spaces. Unless it is Wal-mart…looking homeless is a requirement for shopping at Wal-Mart!
I personally enjoy shopping at Calgary Co-op because the customer service is excellent. They still bag your groceries and bring them out to your car if you ask them to. Of course, this service in reflected in the prices, but I believe that it is worth it.
On my last fall shopping trip I wasn’t feeling very daring. That is why I opted for blue jeans and a black tank top. I added a long, flowy sleeveless shawl cardigan that belongs in an older woman’s store. I bought it because of the pattern. I saw it and I had to have it. Finally, I wore a pair of black pumps to make myself feel tall. I also felt that flats would make me look slightly frumpy.I am a staunch supporter of keeping children out of the store. It is always so unfortunate when you see a child throwing a temper tantrum in the alise. However, I do think it is important to teach your child how to pick out a good fruit or vegetable. I didn’t learn how to do this until I was in my 20’s. I used to have to call my mom and ask “how do I know if the avocado is any good?” How sad it that?
I usually reduce my risk of being embarrassed by a temper tantrum by shopping along the perimeter of the store where all the fresh produce, meat, dairy, and baking resides. Why? Because along the grocery store perimeter the colourful child distractions are no where in sight. Shopping along the perimeter also deters me from buying the garbage they try to pass off as food these days. After a very productive shopping trip I treated myself to coffee. Wearing this outfit helped me to be confident enough to venture to places other than the grocery store. Also, you never know who you will run into or where you will have to go after shopping. Would you like to be caught in your pyjama pants? I think not. This outfit was also casual enough to play in the leaves with my daughter. She loves the outdoors. She particularly loves stomping on the ladybugs that have made a home in the leaves. Being the supportive mother I am (:p) I like to encourage and participate in her activities. This requires me to sit in a pile of leaves for close to an hour. Easy to do in jeans!
