I have to admit that I hate cleaning. I love organizing, but I hate washing things, sweeping up crumbs, or taking out the garbage. On the other hand I LOVE organizing items by size, colour, weight, date, smell…ANYTHING!
However, I think it is foolish to think that being organized and clean are mutually exclusive. They go hand in hand. Because of my love for organizing and my distaste for cleaning, I want to share some super simple cleaning tips that I use at home.
Remove Crayon Marks with Toothpaste
When I first moved into my house there were some serious crayon marks on the wall. I knew that I should create a clean canvas for my daughter to mark up. Who wants to write on the walls when some other child has spoiled your canvas?
My solution was toothpaste! I smeared a bit of toothpaste (not gel toothpaste) on the marks and waited a few minutes. I then wiped away the marks from the former “resident artist” and the walls were ready for my daughter inevitably to work on!
Remove Stains With This Simple Carpet Cleaning Solution
Most times I don’t feel like leaving my house to buy a single item. Some may call it laziness, I call it efficiency. Why waste 40 minutes of my life to pick up one product?
Here is a simple recipe that you can use to stop stains in their tracks
- 1 part vinegar
- 2 parts water
Put the mixture in a spray bottle and shake well. Spray it on your stains and let the solution settle for a few minutes.
If you are feeling full of vim, you can put a damp cloth on the stain and put your (old) iron over it before you scrub the stain away.
Deodorize Your Mattress
After you have turned your mattress it is a great idea to deodorize it. Here is another simple DIY way to deal with your mattress.
- 16-ounce box baking soda
- Your favoutite Essential oil
Add about 15 drops of your favourite essential oil to the box of baking soda and shake it up. Sprinkle the baking soda all over your mattress and leave it. While you are cleaning your carpet stains and washing your walls you can let the solution sit for about an hour.
You can vacuum away the baking soda and viola, you are done.
Additional Cleaning Tip!
I found this tip for removing pee stains (yes, pee stains) in your matress. If you have little ones you may know a thing or two about wetting the bed. I found this recipe on betteronabudget.com
8 ounces/237 ml hydrogen peroxide 3%
3 tablespoons/14.29 grams of baking soda
1 drop of liquid hand dish washing soap
Mix all ingredients into the spray bottle and use within 20 minutes. The mixture only works if you use it immediately, because the cleaning byproducts are active for only a short time. You should see the stain lift and disappear within 5-10 minutes. Once the mattress dries, if a baking soda film remains, then simply wipe or vacuum it off.
